On the occasion of the exhibition “PAGANINI ROCKSTAR”, held at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa from 19 October to 10 March 2019, a special event took place dedicated to one of the most fascinating bonds in the history of music: that between Niccolò Paganini and his “Cannone”.
The protagonist of the event was Alberto Giordano, who guided the audience on an intense journey through history, lutherie, and interpretation, recounting the unique relationship — artistic, physical, and spiritual — that united Paganini with his extraordinary 1743 Guarneri del Gesù.
The “Cannone” is not merely a musical instrument: it is an extension of its owner’s personality, an expressive medium capable of transforming technique and virtuosity into pure emotion. Through the analysis of the instrument’s constructional characteristics, its sonic power, and its stage presence, the event shed light on how the violin helped build the myth of Paganini, the first true “rock star” in the history of music.
A moment of reflection and sharing that enriched the exhibition’s journey, placing at its centre not only the icon, but the profound dialogue between artist and instrument.
