Alberto Giordano’s lecture on Guarneri’s ‘Il Cannone’ took place on Saturday 16th April 2016 at 3pm at The Royal College of Music in Stockholm (Kungl. Musikhögskolan i Stockholm

This event was organized by the Guild of Swedish Violin and Bow Makers (Sveriges Violinbyggarmästare) as part of their annual meeting. The world famous Giuseppe Guarneri “del Gesù” ‘Il Cannone’ violin 1743 once played and owned by Niccolò Paganini is now owned by the City of Genoa and it has been housed in Palazzo Doria Tursi of Musei di Strada Nuova since 1851.

Alberto Giordano has a life-long dedication of preserving and studying in greater detail the masterful creation such as ‘Il Cannone’, so the lecture focused on a wonderful insight of the instrument, as well as on what it takes to look after such a great treasure. The follow up one hour lecture on Sunday 17th April at 10am focused on the Violinmaking School of Genova in the 19th century and the work of great violin makers of its era, Enrico Rocca and Cesare Candi, through whose work Alberto Giordano today has found his own inspiration when making instruments.
