The exhibition “Giovanni Battista Guadagnini 1711–1786. A Luthier at the Court of Don Filippo di Borbone” celebrates the three hundredth anniversary of the birth of the great Italian violin maker of the second half of the eighteenth century, born in Bilegno, a small village in the province of Piacenza, who was later active in Parma for twelve years at the court of the Infante Don Filippo di Borbone. On display are some of his most precious works from international collections.
Speakers: Giuseppe Martini, Alberto Giordano and Nicola Sodini, Philip Kass, Brigitte Brandmair, Terry Borman.
Alberto Giordano and Nicola Sodini will present the microtomographic investigation carried out with synchrotron light at the Elettra Laboratory in Trieste. This innovative investigation technique, applied to G.B. Guadagnini’s 1753 violin, makes it possible to obtain important information about the static and micro-static condition of the instrument, the restoration work carried out, and the damage caused by insects.
