Alberto Giordano&C. - Fine violins, violas and cellos in Genoa

Restoration

An italian viola d’amore was recently discovered by the violin soloist and conductor of the Europa Galante baroque orchestra Fabio Biondi in an Antique shop.

Although the instrument was not in very good condition, Fabio Biondi guessed that the it could be given back not only its charm but its voice as well.

In particoular the scroll was missed but it remained anyway its angel’s haed. Following Biondi’s suggestion, a model of Carlo Antonio Testore from 1769 was choosen for the new scroll.

Yuta Takahashi made an intensive work in drawing the new scroll, preparing all the models in order to renail it to the upper block.

Fabio Biondi is going to record in may 2006 the entire Vivaldi’s concertos for viola d’amore with the restored instrument.
